Number of UK Businesses Going Bust Reaches Four Year High

February 05 2018

The number of UK companies entering liquidation reached levels in 2017 not seen since 2013, recent figures from the Insolvency Service reveal. The quarterly statistical report shows that in England and Wales

  • 17,253 companies entered insolvency in 2017, the highest rate for four years
  • Excluding a one-off exceptional event, the underlying insolvency rate rose by 2.5% from 2016
  • The liquidation rate is 0.47% of all companies or 1 in 213

Samantha White, CEO of My Credit Controllers, said

"The fact that one in two hundred companies will go into liquidation each year should give pause to any business that offers credit to customers. The positive news is that there are tried and tested ways to monitor the financial health of your customers and reduce the risk of getting caught with a bad debt. Professional credit control is available to all companies, whatever your size on an outsourced basis."
